I have always wanted to travel, and I have been doing so relentlessly of late, so I decided to do a page here and there about the places I’ve been to, complete with pictures and any mention of any GLBT places that might be in the area.
I have been to the Carribean on a floating city where I lay on beaches and watched a rainbow of fish swim around my legs.
I have been to 26 of the fifty states, on road trips and on flights, on business trips and for vacations. I have circled the statue of liberty and wandered the haunted halls of Ellis Island. I have explored the beautiful campus in Cedar Falls, Iowa for the Summer Writers Festival.
I have snorkled in an extinct volcano in Hawaii, as an octopus drifted past and dissapeared into the coral without a trace. I have driven across the vast Mississippi river on the 10 freeway, and I have driven on the highest paved road in the US in the Rocky Mountains, where mountain goats scramble over glaciers looking for food.
I have taken a three day train trip across the states. I have driven up and down Cape Cod, and watched the Boston Marathon finish from above the finish line.
I have driven up the coast of Spain with the Mediterranean Sea shining beside me. I have looked into its depths from a tower built by ancient invaders. I have wandered the streets of Cartagena, staring at a Roman amphitheater and eating local breads.
I have landed in a wind storm in Iceland that thrust the back of the plane like a watery tail fin. I have circled the Swiss Alps before landing in a place where the language is indecipherable but beautiful. I have flown over the Netherlands and watched the windmills circling for miles out in the sea.
I have eaten shortbread in Scotland, sat in front of a castle in Wales, and had Guinness in Ireland before walking around monuments older than Stonehenge. Where I’ve also been.
I’ve walked Avebury, played with the seven sisters, scrambled through all five of Lady Ann Clifton’s castles. I’ve spent long hours with Long Meg and her Daughters (all sixty-nine of them). I’ve walked down the middle of ancient Roman stadiums and watched Shakespeare from an ancient Roman ampitheater in Cyprus.
I have seen more of the world than I had ever dreamed possible, and I am still seeing it. Making plans to see it, contemplating seeing more of it.
And even just watching it out the car window every time we go somewhere. Sometimes, that’s just as cool.
Check out the pages of travels, which will hopefully continue to grow, for pictures and details.
Victoria, I love your travel overview of a skip through your travelling accomplishments. I may have to soon write up something similar of my own. One of the reasons I started blogging was my love of travel and wanting an outlet to write about my travels. Since I have been blogging however, I haven’t felt the draw to as yet and as my blog is my own I just write about what comes to mind, it is my time to relax…
However, love this post and may attempt something similar soon, thank you for the inspiration x
I think it’s important to document your travels–not just for yourself and your own memories, but so others who get to your blog can gain some understanding of where you’ve been and what it was like.
But blogging just to get the stuff out of your head is certainly a good thing too!
